MEASURE AND INSTALL A 2X4 FRAME INTO THE OPENING. SET THE FRAME BACK FROM THE FACE OF THE BRICK OR SIDING ABOUT 1”. SHIM, LEVEL AND FASTEN THE 2X4 FRAME SECURLEY IN THE OPENING.

ATTACH THE ALUMINUM HANGER TO THE 2X4 FRAME HEADER AS SHOWN IN THE PHOTOGRAPHS BELOW. IN MOST SITUATIONS THE BOTTOM OF THE HANGER SHOULD BE EVEN WITH THE BOTTOM OF THE 2X4. BEFORE ATTACHING THE HANGER MAKE SURE THERE IS ENOUGH ROOM TO DROP THE GARDEN WINDOW ONTO THE HANGER WITHOUT HITTING THE BRICK OR SIDING.

AT THIS TIME, BEFORE THE WINDOW IS INSTALLED, WE RECOMMEND THAT THE SIDES, AND BOTTOM OF THE 2X4 FRAME BE CAPPED WITH ALUMINUM FLAT STOCK AND CAULKED. ONCE THE GARDEN WINDOWS IS INSATALLED THIS IS ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO DO.

SET THE GARDEN WINDOW IN PLACE BY LIFTING IT 1/4" - 1/2" ABOVE THE HANGER AND ALLOWING THE UNIT TO DROP IN PLACE. IT IS IMPORTANT TO REMEMBER THAT THE HANGER SYSTEM IS MEANT TO ASSIST DURING INSTALLATION AND THE GARDEN WINDOW SHOULD NOT BE LEFT HANGING. INSTALLING SCREWS THROUGH THE HEAD, JAMBS AND SILL SHOULD BE DONE IMMEDIATELY.

INSTALL THE PVC COVERS SUPPLIES WITH GARDEN WINDOW TO HIDE THE INSTALLATION SCREWS. FINISH CAULKING THE EXTERIOR OF THE GARDEN WINDOW TO THE CLAD 2X4 FRAME. AT THIS TIME IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENDED THAT A DRIP CAP DE INSTALLED UNDER THE LINTAL TO PREVENT WATER FROM RUNNING BACK INTO THE HOME UNDER THE CAULKING. THIS IS ESPECIALLY IMPORTANT ON HOMES WITH SIDING ABOVE THE GARDEN WINDOW.

IT IS NOT NORMALLY NESSESSARY TO INSTALL SUPPORTS UNDER GARDEN WINDOWS WITH 16" PROJECTIONS. IT IS STRONGLY RECOMMENED THOUGH, TO SUPPORT GARDENWINDOWS WITH BOTH 24" AND 30" PROJECTIONS. INTERIOR FINISHING ONCE THE GARDEN WINDOW IS INSTALLED IT IS RECCOMMENDED THAT A "NON EXPANDING" FOAM BE USED TO INSULATE AND SEAL BETWEEN THE 2X4 WOOD FRAME AND THE ORIGINAL STRUCTURE. AND BETWEEN THE GARDEN WINDOW AND THE 2X4 FRAME IF THERE ARE ANY GAPS.

A WOOD BOX JAMB EXTENSION (AND CASING) ARE THEN FABRICATED AND INSTALLED TO FINISH THE JOB. IT IS IMPORTANT TO CAULK THE JOINT BETWEEN THE GARDEN WINDOW AND THE EDGE OF THE JAMB EXTENSION BEFORE SETTING THE WOOD BOX AGAINST THE GARDEN WINDOW.

SQUARE AND LEVEL THE JAMB EXTENSION BOX AND NAIL IT IN PLACE. BEFORE ATTACHING THE CASING APPLY ANOTHER BEAD OF "NON EXPANDING" FOAM BETWEEN THE JAMB EXTENSION AND THE STUD WALL TO ENSURE AN AIRTIGHT INSTALLATION.

INSTALLATION WITHOUT REMOVING THE MAIN FRAME

REMOVE THE EXISTING SASH AND TRACKS

DO NOT REMOVE THE EXISTING BRICKMOULD

INSPECT THE EXISTING BRICKMOULD CAREFULLY. IF IT IS SOUND AND NOT ROTTEN SECURE THE BRICKMOULD TO THE FRAME AND STUD STRUCTURE WITH 3" TO 3 1/2" SCREWS EVERY 6" - 8". MAKE SURE TO APPLY SCREWS AT THE CORNERS OF THE EXISTING BRICKMOULD.

IF THE EXISTING BRICKMOULD IS NOT SOUND OR IS ROTTEN, CAREFULLY REMOVE IT AND USE EITHER A NEW BRICKMOULD OR 1 1/4" X 1 3/4" LUMBER TO REPLACE THE BRICKMOULD YOU REMOVED.

IF THE SILL OF THE WINDOW IS SLOPED, MAKE SURE YOU LEVEL THE OPENING TO THE TOP OF THE EXISTING FRAME WITH A FILLER BLOCK. CAULK AND SECURE THE FILLER BLOCK.

INSTALL THE HANGER TO THE TOP BRICKMOULD SECTION AND SECURE IT IN PLACE. IT IS IMPORTANT TO MAKE SURE THERE IS ENOUGH ROOM ABOVE THE HANGER FOR THE GARDENWINDOWS TO DROP IN PLACE.

ONCE THE OPENING IS SECURE APPLY A SUBSTANCIAL BEAD OF GOOD QUALITY CAULKING TO THE CENTER OF THE BRICKMOULD AND AT THE CORNER JUNCTION WHERE THE BRICKMOULD MEETS THE BRICK OR SIDING AND WHERE THE GARDEN WINDOW WILL MEET THE BRICK.

LIFT THE GARDEN WINDOW INTO PLACE.

THE REST OF THE INSTALLTION PROCEDURE IS THE SAME AS FOR A FULL FRAME TEAR OUT.
